Number One FACEIT Player banned for Cheating
Yesterday, after FACEIT received an update to its anti-cheat software, Dmytro “Wonderful_Y” Horkusha was banned for cheating. Not to be mistaken for the recent Major winning Ukrainian sniper Ihor “w0nderful” Zhdanov, Dmytro was the highest-ranked player on the platform at the time of his ban. This is pretty damning for the FACEIT community, with the integrity of the entire ecosystem now being put under question.
Funnily enough, this all came about just a day after current Apeks player Martin “STYKO” Styk posted a video on his YouTube channel titled - “The Best FACEIT Player is not who you think it is…”
In this video he speaks about how Wonderful_Y is the highest ranked player on FACEIT and reviews some of his demos. STYKO had this to say on X after the news of the ban came out.
The 23-year-old Ukrainian received a two-year ban on FACEIT for cheating and tried to initially discredit the ban, claiming it relates to the sv_cheats bug that caused Eternal Fire Academy duo Ahmet “cyber” Akpınar and Bilgihan “Depact” Ayaz to both be handed bans. This claim was quickly dismissed by a FACEIT employee on X, stating that players who were detected using the sv_cheats exploit were banned shortly after the exploit occurred and that no bans have been issued since.
Once his theory was proven false, the Ukrainian came clean, communicating it was his mistake, and that he wanted to quit after the FACEIT season to focus on his real life.
