G2 Gozen Parts Ways with Nelo After six months and three tournaments
After benching Mathilde "Nelo" Beltoise on June 26, G2 Gozen has officially announced the departure of the French player. The split marks the end of a six-month journey and three tournaments under the G2 banner for the former Karmine Corp member. During her tenure with the German organization, Nelo and G2 placed 9th–12th in the North East Qualifier for the VALORANT Challengers League, secured 3rd place in VCT Game Changers EMEA Stage 1, and finished 4th in Stage 2. For a team with a legacy of title contention in Europe and consistent Championship qualification, these results fell short of expectations.
In a bid to turn around a rough start to the season, G2 Gozen made several roster changes throughout the year. Before eventually returning to the active lineup, long-time member Petra "Petra" Stoker was initially replaced by Esllene "Akita" Xu. However, the swap failed to deliver the desired improvement. In fact, the 4th-place finish in Stage 2 matched G2’s worst result ever in a Game Changers EMEA event (Stage 3, 2023).
The team also experimented with role swaps, including a bold decision to play without a dedicated Duelist. The strategy backfired, as manager Thibault “Tibalt” Pulcini himself later admitted it had been a failure.
No Shocking Exit
Nelo’s departure hardly comes as a surprise. As previously mentioned, she had already been moved to the inactive roster to make room for Petra's return. With her sidelining already in effect, the official split is not a real surprise. What lies ahead for the French player remains to be seen, though she hinted that “Going back to basics is important”.
