Record-breaking debut

Released this past Tuesday, August 19, exclusively in China, VALORANT Mobile is already positioning itself as a heavyweight contender in the mobile gaming market. Expectations are being met, as Bloomberg reports on Wednesday that the Tencent and Riot Games title generated nearly one million dollars in iPhone spending on its very first day, with around 170,000 downloads recorded. The game quickly shot to the top of the iOS download charts and also secured a spot in the top ten highest-grossing mobile games.

A grandiose release

This strong debut reinforces the anticipation surrounding the mobile adaptation of Riot’s FPS, which had already amassed more than 70 million pre-registrations during its beta phase. At launch, VALORANT Mobile features 18 playable agents, seven maps taken directly from the PC version, and eight distinct game modes. Riot also used the occasion to unveil new cosmetic lines designed specifically for the mobile edition, including the Overdrive and Awakening Lion skin collections.

For now, the release remains limited to the Chinese market, with no official international date announced. However, with the VALORANT Champions event set to take place in Paris this September, many believe Riot could use that stage to finally reveal a global rollout. That speculation gained more weight after players discovered an avatar bearing the Champions branding inside the mobile version. The item appears to function like a drop, which would likely become unlockable for fans tuning in to the competition scheduled from September 12 through October 5.
