FLY retain their 5 players and coaching staff, aiming for the title in the new LTA league
FlyQuest (FLY) are set to retain their entire roster — and coaching staff — for the upcoming LTA season, sources have told Sheep Esports. After a historic year winning their first title, breaking records, and taking fans on an emotional journey, the organization has decided to build on the foundations of their successful 2024 season as they make their LTA debut.
NA's best project?
FlyQuest had an incredible year of growth and achievement in 2024. The team started strong, finishing second in the Spring Split and — after changing their midlaner mid-season — they set the stage for what would become a historic Summer. In the Summer Split, they captured the organization’s first-ever title by defeating Team Liquid, an undefeated squad throughout the split. This victory solidified their position as a dominant force in the region, and qualified them for the organization's second Worlds ever.
On the international stage, FlyQuest shone as the best team from North America and proved themselves to be one of the strongest Western representatives at the 2024 Worlds. They were the only Western team to make it to the quarterfinals, delivering an unforgettable series against tournament favorites Gen.G. Pushing the Korean powerhouse to a nail-biting Game 5, FlyQuest showcased a unique and exciting style of play, proving their ability to compete with the world’s elite. Though they ultimately fell short, their performance significantly elevated the organization's reputation.
The team, while not without flaws, excels at leveraging its strengths and has carved out a unique identity. Their playstyle revolves around the vocal leadership of Gabriël "Bwipo" Rau, the mastery of Kacper "Inspired" Słoma in the jungle, and the mechanical precision of their carries: Song "Quad" Su-hyeong in the midlane and Fahad "Massu" Abdulmalek, widely regarded as one of the best rookies worldwide this year, in the botlane. Paired with the reliability and creativity of Alan "Busio" Cwalina, their flexibility enables them to make bold decisions in drafts and and in-game — tools that will prove invaluable as fearless draft enters the global circuit next year.
It almost didn't happen
The offseason, however, brought uncertainty. FlyQuest explored the idea of building a six-man roster, considering the addition of Jett Michael "Srtty" Joye, who eventually reached a verbal agreement with Dignitas. They also entertained the bold notion of moving star player Joseph "Jojopyun" Pyun, to the top lane. According to the team's general manager Andrew Barton, the plan was to pair Bwipo's experience with Jojopyun's prodigious talent — with Bwipo as a positional coach, his experience and advice could help elevate a player like Jojopyun to the next level. Amidst these possibilities, Jojopyun chose to remain a midlaner and eventually picked Mad Lions KOI in LEC, and the roster plans shifted accordingly.
The news of FlyQuest re-signing their entire roster follows confirmation that Erlend "Nukeduck" Holm and Alfonso "mithy" Rodríguez will remain part of the coaching staff. FlyQuest is retaining their team next split with a clear goal: secure the inaugural title of the new LTA league. The team is setting its sights on another impressive performance at Worlds, now embracing their role as regional favorites. They have become a beacon of hope for an entire region longing for the gap between the West and the East in competitive League of Legends to finally begin to close.
