Jiejie has left Invictus Gaming and joined FunPlus Phoenix
The sixth and penultimate week of LPL Split 3 concluded this Sunday, August 24, with 15 more Bo3 series played. The key takeaway is that we now know the four teams advancing directly to the Playoffs and the eight teams heading to the Play-In stage. Top Esports had a perfect week, going 2-0 and currently sitting at 11-2. Invictus Gaming were the big winners of the week with a 3-0 record, bringing their score to 9-3, tied with Bilibili Gaming, who fell to IG. Anyone’s Legend are fourth after a 2-1 week, putting them at 8-5.
Half a week of competition remains, concluding on Thursday, but it won’t affect the teams already qualified or eliminated—ThunderTalk Gaming and LNG Esports are out. Some positions may still shift depending on the remaining results. IG’s AD Carry Chen "GALA" Wei was the most awarded MVP this week, earning the title in three games.
A clearly defined top 4
The top four teams in the LPL are clearly TES, IG, BLG, and AL, and they have all rightfully secured their Playoff spots. LPL teams are showing increasingly solid play, especially with the Worlds approaching, which will take place at home from October 14 to November 9. On the first day of the week, IG and BLG put on a great show, with IG ultimately taking the series 2-1, highlighted by two standout games from GALA. Earlier in the day, FPX suffered their sixth consecutive loss. They continued this streak with a seventh defeat against AL, followed by an eighth loss to IG.
JD Gaming continues to struggle, falling consecutively to IG midweek and to AL on Sunday, with the arrival of Wang "Zhuo" Xu-Zhuo making little immediate impact. At the bottom of the Ascend Group, FPX and Team WE remain stagnant, with Wang "Monki" Meng-Qi’s team only playing one Bo3 this week against TES, ending in a 2-1 loss. Meanwhile, in the Nirvana Group, Kim "Doinb" Tae-sang and Ninjas in Pyjamas secured their seventh consecutive win, and along with EDward Gaming, they could seriously challenge the bottom four of the Legend Group.
