KT dropped both games despite being ahead
On Friday, Gen.G bounced back with a second LCK win after their loss to T1, taking a tough 2-0 victory over KT Rolster. Despite KT holding multi-thousand gold leads in both games, they failed to close out, allowing the MSI champions to improve to 20-1 in the Legend Group and continue their near-perfect season. In the day’s second series, Dplus KIA claimed a more straightforward win over DN Freecs, who drop to 1-20, while DK strengthened their position at the top of the Rise Group with a 13-9 record.
In Game 1, Gen.G started strong in the early game, but KT turned things around with a series of successful fights, building a lead of over 3,000 gold. However, a crucial teamfight around the dragon soul saw Joo "Duro" Min-kyu land a brilliant Rell combo, flipping the momentum and allowing Gen.G to close out the game shortly after to take the lead. In Game 2, KT looked even stronger with a 4k gold advantage, but another standout performance from Duro—this time on Bard—combined with solid midlane setups around Jeong "Chovy" Ji-hoon helped Gen.G scale back into the game. Despite KT's sharp plays and early control, Gen.G closed it out 2-0.
Third consecutive win for DK
After opening the split with a loss to OKSavingsBank BRION, Dplus KIA are now on a win streak—taking down BNK FearX, DRX, and most recently DN Freecs. On Friday, the Freecs suffered their 20th loss of the LCK season, with just one win to their name. In Game 1, Kim "Aiming" Ha-ram put on a clinic with a 12/1/9 Varus performance, dealing over 39k damage and becoming the fourth player in LCK history to reach 2,500 kills—only Gwak "Bdd" Bo-seong, Kim "Deft" Hyuk-kyu, and Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok are ahead of him. Game 2 started well for DK, who maintained control despite some positional mistakes that gave Freecs a glimmer of hope. Choi "Lucid" Yong-hyeok stood out on Zed, and eventually DK closed out the series.
The LCK action continues this weekend, with a major clash on Saturday, August 2, as T1 face Hanwha Life Esports in the Legend Group. In the Rise Group, the day’s other series will see FearX take on DRX. On Sunday, Nongshim RedForce will look for their first win of the split, though it won’t be easy against Gen.G, while the Freecs will try to do the same against BRION.
