Shiina dominated the grand final with two standout performances.
The year 2025 begins much as 2024 ended for G2 Hel. Victorious in the Coupe des Étoiles last October to conclude their season, the Samurai women's team clinched their first tournament of the year this Sunday by winning the TRIFORC3 TOURNAMENT. In preparation for the return of competition on the WNB scene, Maya “Caltys” Henckel and her teammates participated over the past two weekends in the first stage of Split 2 of the Circuito Tormenta, Spain's third level of competition.
The G2 players secured qualification for the main event last week and emerged victorious on Sunday, defeating LittleSans 2-1 in the grand final. This initial success helped G2 solidify confidence in their two newly recruited solo lane players: Zeniv in the toplane and Rym “rym” Salloum in the midlane. However, in this final, it was jungler Marta “Shiina” Mesas Garrido who stood out with two impressive performances that significantly bolstered G2's dominance. The Spanish player concluded Game 2 with a 13-1 K/D record with Xin Zhao and followed up with a 10-2 K/D record in Game 3 with Pantheon.
Game Changers are coming
Despite a strong start to the season, the team must maintain its rhythm through the split, with potentially three or more tournaments ahead, plus the Hextech Series Split 1 and 2 starting this week. If G2 Hel keeps up the pace, it could qualify for Liga Nexo and compete in Spain's 2nd Division. G2H's next opponent is Dark Phoenix Esports, a team that was defeated 0-2 by LittleSans, the team G2H beat in the TRIFORC3 Tournament finals.
This is not G2 Hel's first appearance in the mixed ERL network. Since 2023, the team has competed in the lower divisions of the NLC. In Spring 2024, G2 Hel even had the opportunity to participate in NLC Division 2. As a reminder, the League of Legends women's scene is expected to receive significant support in the coming months with the introduction of Game Changers, as previously reported by Sheep Esports. According to our sources, LEC teams will be invited to participate in the competition, and G2 Hel is expected to be among them.
