Riot Games implemented several changes to the bottom bar of the screen, enhancing readability and providing clearer access to key information
Riot Games introduced a new HUD (Heads-Up Display) during Day 1 of the First Stand 2025, aimed at refreshing the viewer's experience. After years of using the same interface, the developers believed it was time for an update, especially with the introduction of new gameplay mechanics like Feats of Strength and the arrival of Atakhan. The new HUD was meant to modernize the presentation, adding more depth and clarity to the broadcast. However, the initial reception of the new design was far from favorable.
First improvements on the bottom bar
Despite Riot's intentions, the new HUD received a wave of criticism from viewers and analysts alike. Many pointed out several issues, ranging from crowded UI elements to poor readability of key game information. The overwhelming feedback led Riot Games to quickly acknowledge the concerns and implement a series of changes by Day 2 of the competition, such as:
- Reduced Size of HP Bars: The health bars of champions were resized to be less intrusive, allowing for a clearer view of the overall action without losing important information.
- Smaller UI Elements: Critical information, such as ultimate abilities, summoner spells, item builds, and experience bars, were all reduced in size to free up more screen space.
- Enhanced Clarity of Key Stats: Key metrics like KDA (Kills, Deaths, and Assists) and Creep Score (CS) became more readable.
- Reintroduction of Gold Diff: After receiving significant feedback, Riot Games reintroduced the gold difference between players, a popular feature removed in the initial HUD update.
- Improved Rune and XP Bar Visibility: The runes and experience bars were re-added.
It is clear that the First Stand serves as a testing period for the launch of this new interface. However, although nothing has been officially announced yet, it will likely be deployed across all regions in the future. Therefore, it is important to optimize it as much as possible.
