This marked the seventh pentakill of Caps' career
This honor was reserved for the King. On Monday, Europe's best player, Rasmus "Caps" Winther, secured the first pentakill of the LEC season. The Danish midlaner achieved the feat in the 26th minute of G2 Esports’ match against SK Gaming, primarily through the devastating power of Viktor's ultimate, Arcane Storm. Already commanding the game, the Samurai capitalized on this pivotal play in the botlane to decisively seal the match, wrapping it up during the following three minutes.
This marked the seventh pentakill of Caps' career and his first with Viktor. His inaugural pentakill dates back to June 2016, achieved with Aurelion Sol while playing for Nerv in the EUCS. Aurelion Sol remains the only champion with which the Danish prodigy has secured two pentakills, the second occurring during the Spring Split 2024 playoffs against BDS. However, his most iconic pentakill remains the one he earned with Akali against SKTT1 at MSI 2019, the only international title of Caps' career.
A Challenging Start
Monday's pentakill came as a much-needed achievement for G2, helping them close the week on a high note after a challenging start. For the first time in its LCS EU/LEC history, the team lost its opening split match on Saturday to Karmine Corp. Adding to their woes, the defending champions suffered another defeat the following day at the hands of BDS. As such, the match against SK was crucial for G2 in this compressed Winter Split, which will come to an end after just nine BO1s for the two worst teams.
