Two more years for BrokenBlade!
Today, G2 Esports published a major announcement shedding light on some of its future plans for the upcoming 2025 off-season set to take place in October. Per the news, Sergen "BrokenBlade" Çelik has now renewed his contract with G2 Esports, which was previously set to expire at the end of 2024. To discuss the move, G2 Esports organized a heartwarming celebration for the top laner, as seen in their official video content announcement.
Per Sheep Esports sources, the Turkish-German top laner has now extended his contract with the team for two additional years. With this move, the player's new contract is set to expire in November of 2026.
Top Laners—Potential Moves in October?
According to Riot Games' Global Contract Database, many talented European top laners have contracts ending in 2024. Among these players are Oscarinin, Canna, Irrelevant, Adam, Photon, Finn, Cabochard, and Odoamne. With such a lengthy amount of free agents in the coming off-season, it is likely that other teams will attempt to secure themselves potential contractual extensions, or will seek new prospects.
With this, the upcoming off-season is expected to potentially feature quite a rollercoaster of changes for the LEC top lane landscape, with many attractive players becoming free agents. Sources of Sheep Esports indicate that several of the aforementioned players are currently already in negotiations for potential contract renewals.
BrokenBlade was the only G2 Esports player whose contract was set to expire in 2024. The rest of the players and staff have contracts extending until November 2025. The renewal of his contract had been in the works for days and now makes him the current longest contract in effect of G2 Esports, as all other starting members remain contracted until the end of next year.
